May I offer you a very warm welcome to the Wiltshire & Bath Organists’ Association website.
This is being constructed at the beginning of April 2020, at a time when, due to the world health crisis, normal activities are suspended: churches are closed, and there are no public concerts, group visits and so on. However, our Association will continue to function and to welcome you, but in a new and “virtual” way. The internet allows us to get in touch with one another, to discuss matters, exchange ideas, ask advice of one another. As we progress with the construction of our site we will include links to other organisations offering help, virtual lessons, and other organ related matters.
I hope you find it easy to navigate and that you find items of interest. If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We are a very friendly group of people, both performers and listeners, who are interested in the organ and its music, and the world of choral music; we welcome new members at any time.
The association was founded over 100 years ago to help and assist local Organists and Choir Directors to meet one another, and to offer advice to performers, teachers, students, clergy and members of the public. Some of our members are able to deputise for occasional services; others take organ pupils, while others ask for information regarding local organ teachers. Each year we offer a varied programme of events, which include lectures and workshops on aspects of organ and choral music, recitals, visits to interesting organs and social events. The visits to various organs provide not only the obvious opportunity of playing different instruments, but hearing members play pieces that may well be useful additions to one’s own repertoire.
The Association has funds available from time to time to support young members with their studies related to playing the organ.
The WBOA is affiliated to the Incorporated Association of Organists (IAO) which enables members to participate in all IAO activities and receive the benefits provided by the IAO.
